Bifocals and Trifocals

Bifocals are an alternative to multifocal lenses. The lens allows for focus at two different distances, with a ‘segment’ at the bottom of the lens for close work. Bifocals allow for wide, distortion-free viewing; however they are difficult to use with computers and other intermediate tasks. They are also less cosmetically appealing than other lenses as the reading segment shows as a visible line in the lens.

Trifocals are similar to bifocals, except that a third, intermediate area lies between the distance and near areas, with a second line on the lens.
